The Archivist.
This is a photographic essay of what remains of a park that was a staple of El Paso's entertainment history. All photographs were taken as an archive of what the park looks like in it's current state of decay. I DO NOT CONDONE THE UNLAWFUL ACT OF BREAKING & ENTERING, NO MATTER WHAT THE CAUSE.

Hello,
My interest is in Mountain Shadow Lakes.
I was in the Army there in El Paso from 89 to 92 and would spend most weekends jetskiing at the Mountain Shadow Lakes.
Any info you can give me on what it is today etc. would be great.

Remember it well, too, growing up. Spent several weekends there before it was shut down. Any archives or links added would be appreciated. There is NOTHING on the net about Mountain Shadow Lakes and I'm starting to doubt whether or not it existed or if it was a dream! Bodies of water and El Paso were never synonymous but for these years (89-92).
There first lake in the 60's dried up and so they made another one and when I was there in 76, the public of el Paso was able to come out & use the lake but before it was only for the horizon City home owners to use. Is there any talk of the lake being reopened again. I guess with the price of gas & the economy being poor, it would not be a money maker. LollyLou
I live in the Horizon area but I have never seen it. I would like to check out the lake just to see it but I do not have an address. Does anyone have an address or the general vicinity of where the lake is located? I know it is in Horizon but is on the street Horizon?
I can remember as a kid spending the entire day there. Which as big, being that we were from El Paso. My family always went and can still remeber how crowded it used to be. As I recall, my mother might still have some family pictures of our times there...
If you look on google maps or earth, you can kinda get an idea of where it is..
I tried going to the lake about a month ago but there were signs warding you off the property.
